THE STORY BEHIND THE ART:
This is the I-74 bridge. If you are a Quad Cities native, it is a part of your past.
I still remember the first times driving over it, as a new driver, white knuckling the steering wheel, as there was not a lot of wiggle room, no matter which lane you were driving in.
I would always get a little shaky driving over it, but I most certainly enjoy viewing it when I am on land, or on a boat. It is a beautiful piece of architecture, and I will be sad to see it go.
For years, I have studied it, sketched it, painted it, and taken hundreds of photos of it.
Every time I see it, it looks different, depending on the time of day, and the lighting from above, as well as the reflections coming up from the waters of the Mississippi River.
It's days are numbered, but the images, paintings and nostalgia for days gone by along the river, will live on forever.
