More About the Art Making Process
This Print is from an original painting(sold) that is of my Trash Talk series,
a collection of original paintings on mylar snack food wrappers
Inspired by the image of Taylor Swift used to advertise her Eras tour.
Materials used: Fluid Acrylics on Mylar Fig Newton Wrapper
My Why: This painting was created by using snack wrappers as a substrate, in hopes of starting a conversation "Trash Talk", about:
- shedding light on finding meaningful ways to repurpose this material, rather than having it end up in our waterways and landfills.
- Mylar is a popular material used throughout the snack food industry because it is lightweight and does a great job in maintaining freshness.
- One thing it is not good at is breaking down in landfills.
- That's why I am trying to bring awareness to this new way of using it.
- My hope is that maybe the art industry could find a way to recycle it for creative uses on a larger scale.
- My hope is to share this idea with teachers, parents, and artists, so that we can all make a difference, one wrapper at a time, by repurposing these types of wrappers for art projects in classrooms, art studios, and at home with our kids!
- Repurposing mylar packaging for art also saves money for artists on a budget, to practice new techniques, for preliminary painting studies.
- It's a stress free surface to work on because it was going to be thrown away anyway, so no pressure or worry about wasting expensive paper!
- It's a great surface to use for making reproductions of your art and enlarging it,
- it works so well for enlargements because it has no texture, like a canvas does. It's very difficult to hide the canvas weave when you enlarge prints of paintings made on canvas
