How to Choose Art for Above Your Bed

3 Things to Consider When Hanging art Above a bed

1

Size

Art for above a bed should be about 75% of the width of the bed.

2

Spacing Above Bed

Art should be hung 8-10 inches above the headboard.

3

Spacing Between Art Pieces

For hanging 3 pieces of art above the bed....  here's a wonderfully illustrated demonstration by an interior designer I found online.

If your bed is 100 inches wide, take 100x.75= 75 inches  If you have 3 pieces of art that are 20 inches wide, take 75inches-(20+20+20)= 15 inches

Since you will have the 2 spaces between the 3 pieces of artwork, divide 15/2= 7.5 inches.

Hang the middle piece at the halfway mark of 75 inches( 75/2= 37.5inches)

Hang the art on either side of the center art at 20+7.5= 27.5 inches away from where you put the nail in for the center art.

3 Types of Art to consider

Abstract Art

Abstract art in a neutral color palette that matches your room can also be a good choice.  With nothing specific to focus on it can help your mind zone out and relax. Some abstract pieces, like the one shown here, also are inspired by something unique and special(bald eagles in January at Lock and Dam 15).

Destinations to Dream About

Landscape art can help remind you of a favorite vacation, memories with people you love, or serene places on your bucket list to visit.that give you a sense of calm and relaxation.

There's No Place Like Home

Art with calming colors like blue and green can help you relax.  If you live away from a place you love, find a print in this color family of that place, to help remind you of home.
